It has to be
something to do with how I voted. For the last couple months, I have been getting the Max Newsletter.
Early December it addressed Outdoor Fees. I will assume all my readers are interested in this, and have the background information needed. Anyway, Max says “Americans already pay to use their public lands on April 15. We shouldn’t be taxed twice to go fishing, hiking, or camping on OUR public lands. It just doesn’t make any sense. That’s why Mike and I are going to fight like the dickens to get this bill passed.”
Fight like the dickens. Doesn’t it just make you proud to hear.
On Dec. 19th, I received “Bringing home the Bacon” Fiscal Year 2008 Omnibus Appropriations Bill Highlights from Max. Now I like bacon. So I opened er up, and sadly, no bacon. But a lot of pork. And some hot air.
“We fought hard for these dollars because Montana deserves funding for things like better highways, safer police stations and clean water.”
Hey, I hear our Po-lice could use some help. What did we get?
Well, Billings got:
$178,600 Billings Police Department to purchase a crime scene investigation vehicle
$206,800 Billings Police Department for digital cameras for police vehicles
Bozeman?
$277,300 for a mobile communications command vehicle and a special response vehicle will allow Gallatin County first responders to respond more quickly and efficiently to emergencies.
$188,000 in grants for local law enforcment
Kalispell?
$178,600 Whitefish Police Department Equipment
$223,250 Flathead 911 Dispatch
Great Falls?
…………….
Groovy.
Billings got bunches of money, top dollar being $4,596,200 for Shiloh Road, with a total of over 9.5 million.
Bozeman’s high dollar amount was $5,904,000 for MSU’s Center for Zero Emissions Research & Technology which is focused on developing zero emissions coal. Total of over 16.4 million.
Butte received one of the largest chunks of $7,629,000 Army Reserve Center – for purchasing land, constructing an ARC Training building, Organizational Maintenance Shop (OMS), unheated storage building, and organizational parking. 12.4 million total.
In Helena and Kalispell road work got the most $$.
Missoula? well they got $2,058,000 for spiroid winglets research.Total is 10.2 million.
What is a spiroid winglet? I didn’t know, I had to Google it.
(A winglet that loops back onto the wing to attempt to eliminate winglet tip induced vortices.) Also know as an airplane part.
Rural Montana got many varied amounts, mostly water, roads and healthcare, over 42.7 million, with Hill County/Rocky Boy being the big winner.
High dollar for Great Falls was $7,000,000 Malmstrom Air Force Base Community Activity Center.
We also got:
$446,500 Great Falls Emergency Services Training Center
$952,072 Benefis Healthcare Foundation
$656,600 Great Falls Bus Facility.
For a total of about 9 million.
No police. No water. No roads.

What entity in Missoula is qualified for fluid dynamic research involving winglets? I’m all for Montana getting it’s share of the pork but why can’t it at least make sense on the surface? Zero emission coal, who sold that whopper?
