Well, I didn’t have a problem with voting at the fairgrounds. Course, I live near it.

I didn’t have a problem voting for Mary Jolley. She is smart, funny, opinionated, knows what she thinks and isn’t afraid to say it. I agree with most of what I have heard her say.

Then I hit the political mire. I could not vote for Steele. I don’t see Kahn being much different than the present Mayor. I cannot vote for Dona, simply because she made statements to the people on these blogs when she won the last election that I see no evidence of her upholding. There is more to it than that, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty, there you have it.

Lewin is too far out for me, Bronson will probably do fine, but I didn’t wish to support him, and Hensley is the ink pad for the rubber stamp.

I havn’t written much political stuff lately. I would like to mention though, I have been following a couple threads on the Tribune forums. I am insulted by some of the statements there. People attack the personal lives of others, attacks that have nothing to do with anything. People cry loudly for their rights, while grinding the rights of those that disagee under their collective heel. People attack the Paper for not writing stories-stories that have no factual basis.

And I guess I should stop writing, and thinking, because I lack a college degree, and as such, I have no intelligence or ability to reason, and should probably just go stick my head down a gopher hole and die.

Please stay away from gopher holes. Call me if you get the urge to visit one. And who are you?

I know plenty who are long on college and short on everything else.

Fear of the unknown is usually what causes folks to lash out. They don’t, or won’t, understand it, so therefore it must be evil.

Don’t let the fear or the ignorance of others deter you at all… just consider the source and you’ll be just fine.

    Firefly,

A college education generally instills knowledge, but wisdom is earned outside of the classroom. Wisdom is the more valuable and essential element to the crafting of public policy.

I find your thoughts and responses to political discussion to be rather insightful and would miss hearing your point of view. I do not know which threads you are referring to in the Tribune posts, but I suspect I have read the same ones.

I can only say that some people mistake disagreement for disrespect. They are so certain of their opinion that they can not fathom how anyone who does not share said opinion can possibly have an IQ greater than their hat size.

The good news, is these folks are small in number, most people who are actively involved in the setting of public policy understand that different conclusions can be reached by rational people on the same issue. Most are respectful of the opinions of others even if they do not share them.

The trick is to just not let those few get you down.

In Pachyderm we have a saying; “We get the government we deserve, not the one we wish for.” Keep being involved in the process. I look forward to both your political posts with which I agree and those to which I can not agree. Heated discussions are a central element of a healthy democracy as is the ability to agree to disagree.

    Best wishes,

Hang in there, FF…those idiots at the Trib forum who belittle people without a college degree are only revealing their own ignorance.

Well, thank you all for the goodwill. I was trying for humorous sarcasm, and that was but a momentary fit of irritation with nincompoops who use education instead of intelligence as a club to beat their own opinion into others.

I consider myself in good company.
