I got a wild hair

so I tried rollerblading today. While fairly adept on traditional skates, I have never really tried the more “modern” inline style. Well, the boy was home, and had friends over, which was my first error. Within seconds of venturing out, they were on me like vultures on a dying man in the desert. When I expressed to my dear son the difficulty I was having with forward progress, (because you see roller skates have that deal on the front to push off with, but blades do not,) The dear boy said “yeah mom, things have changed since last time you were on skates - In the ’70’s!” Little brat knew there was no way I could catch him. He also stated there was no way he was going to try to help me if I fell (you’ll squish me Mom!) So I proceeded down the street, with my sweet little girl, (am I going too fast Mom? I can slow down for you) on her  bike.  I never fell, but I am sure it was quite humorous. But not to the extent the boys thought, as they followed us down the street and around the corner, cackling like a pack of hyenas.

Well, then I took the girl on a bike ride (Mom, why are you riding my bike? Because I can!) and now my legs are a bit tired. It feels good though, I can tell I havn’t been doing enough. I have been much less active in my average day for the last while, and am going to have to start doing something.

Went to dinner with the sisters this weekend. It is the week between their birthdays, so we went out to dinner to celebrate. No kids or other family members, so it was quite peaceful. They wanted to go to Dantes, but that establishment was closed, so we ended up in Black Eagle. I was starving and planned on having the grill, but my plan of getting immediate food was twarted by the siblings insistence on “doing this right”. ”Right” evidently being starve for a bit while they mull over the menu, order drinks and appetizers, wait for appetizers (you do realize we could be up there right now!) eat appetizers, discuss character and quality of appetizers in unneeded detail, etc.

(regarding drinks: I had a strawberry daquiri. OK, I had a couple. The first one was quite good, but when the lady brought the second, she informed us they had run out of “mix” so had been forced to use real strawberries in it. It was excellent. Much better than the one made from the “mix”.)

Anyhow, dinner was excellent, and I enjoyed hanging out with the sisters. While we were happily stuffing ourselves,  our server came to tell us some “unnamed gentleman” had paid our bill. The eldest expressed “how nice” that was, and the middle sister felt that the gentleman “was a real sweetie”. (She then wondered if she could tell her husband it was a table full of hot young guys, since we didn’t actually know it wasn’t.) I sincerely appreciated the gesture since 1) I had planned on paying the bill, and 2) it really made their night.

It was an excellent evening, got to pummel my neice with a pillow, which at her age is a real hoot, and spend some time with the sisters.

Well, I must go. I am being forced to go on another bike ride. My legs may just fall off.
