A few thoughts

relative to Geeguys excellent rant.

I read the Tribune forum. Sadly, I consider most of it more humor than informational. There are a few commenters who actually make sense occasionally, but on the whole, I find the views expressed over there indicative of what’s wrong with many people in this Country. Not just our town, but our country.

I find it interesting that an article about DUI’s causes people to bitch about “nothing to do for kids.”  Maybe if some of those people got off their asses and put a little thought into it, they could find things for kids to do. Kids that are tought to be responsible and make good decisions may actually grow up to be adults who show the same qualities.

There are people that complain about nothing to do for kids. There are other people so busy running kids to ball games and ballet lessons, buddies houses, the roller rink, water slides, skate park, regular park, etc. that they don’t have time to complain. Do we really need the City to step in and find things for our kids to do? How fucking disconnected are you from your kids that you can’t find things for them to do! I don’t think the City has the money or expertise to be raising our kids anyway.

I grew up here too, I drank a bit, but I cannot remember a Casino sign ever making me drink. I’ve heard about subliminal advertising though, maybe that’s what makes the Tribune take the advertising money from the Casino’s, while constantly bitching about how many of them there are.

Bars do not make people drink and drive. Casino’s do not make people drink and drive. Bartenders and bouncers do not make people drink and drive. People that get in cars and drive drunk are the real root of the problem. If you go out drinking (because there is nothing else to do, it’s not your fault!) and wrap your car around a tree, or a sign, or Mom coming home from soccer practice, It is Your Fault for getting in that car and driving. It is not anyone elses. YOU put the key in the ignition, you threw ‘er in drive, you have responsibility for your actions.

Why is that so hard for people to accept? New rules (no alcohol sales on sunday, etc.) are not going to change people. They will just make more people breaking the rules.
