Mindless meanderings

So on this nifty site Dave set up for me, I have Akismet to catch my spam. I have no clue how it works, but it does a good job, and is even apoligetic if it does wrong, which it hasn’t. I ususally don’t even think about it, or check on it, but today I go look in there (78 spam blocks since it was installed!) and out of about 17 spams there are 13 messages for Cialis. The rest are all for porn sites. (If one doesn’t get you up, the other can!) Amazing.

Just one of those things I find icky and wrong about our society today.

In other news, since I know you have all been waiting with bated breath for my two cents on issues relavant to our community:

When the three minute rule went into effect, I thought, just wait. Sadly, I am done waiting. It seems obvious that this is not a case of equal treatment. You cannot convince me this is the first time that someone has gone over three minutes when addressing the City. It is how the system reacts to that horrible infraction that is the real issue.

I cannot say if this person knew about the time limit rule. I cannot say if she knew who was physically removing her from the City Commission Chambers, despite the obvious question, who would it be? Would a regular citizen really try that in front of the entire city?

I do know it fills me with disgust to see our local City Commission attempt to muzzle any citizen to this extent. I think the City has plenty of other issues they could make an effort on, and probably has other things to worry about, with out entering the boggy marsh of a persons right to comment on an issue that they are deeply passionate about.

Freedom of speech is not an issue that a City Commision should attempt to control, and the reaction by the City that this particular speaker caused seems a bit out of bounds.
I have not seen what happened. I do not know who is right. But this is an issue that I can understand someone taking more than three minutes to address.

If the city intends to enforce this rule, it must be enforced at every meeting, every speaker, every time. And lets just see how well that goes.

I was going to touch on the whole womens rights/birth control issue, but I think if I go there it will need a post all of its own.  Besides, it seems to have mostly died down, so should I really stir the pot?
